My iPod realised it was summer on the bus home. I watched London go by listening to Belle & Sebastian peppered with Rufus Wainwright. Finally it decided on Safe in My Garden by The Mamas and The Papas. This song will always remind me of September 11th 2001 – my first day out after a summer long illness and I walked all over London humming along. As I got home and heard about the towers, those lyrics stuck in my head: ‘Cops out with their megaphones; Telling people ‘stay inside your homes’; Man, can’t they see the world’s on fire?’ Appropriate.
